Memory, Dialogue and Reception

On October 3, 2013, 368 people died off the coast of Lampedusa.

Since then, we have been working with European schools to build a different concept of immigration, create memory, support reception and inclusion policies, and build a victims' DNA database.

Comitato Tre Ottobre

The Comitato 3 ottobre is a nonprofit organization with the aim of raising awareness among the public about the issues of inclusion and hospitality through dialogue with citizens, students, and institutions. Born in the aftermath of the shipwreck on October 3rd, 2013, off the coast of Lampedusa, where 368 migrants lost their lives, the Committee identified October 3rd as a symbolic date, not only to commemorate the victims of that shipwreck but also to remember the thousands of people who regularly die in the Mediterranean Sea or remain stranded at the Eastern borders of Europe.

Our goal

  • Informing and engaging the new generations in the debate on the phenomenon of migration through educational activities at both national and international levels. We also carry out advocacy actions with Italian and European institutions.
  • Creating a European DNA database for the identification of victims and reforming the Dublin Regulation.
  • Promoting the integration and inclusion of the immigrant population into local communities upon their arrival in our country. This is a fundamental condition for the social cohesion of an increasingly intercultural nation.
  • Supporting the opening of humanitarian corridors and legal and secure entry systems to end the violation of human rights and deaths at sea.

Our mission

We build memory and inclusion through training courses on the phenomenon of migration, organizing activities aimed at informing and raising awareness among the public, and promoting equal rights and opportunities for people seeking asylum in our country.
